2 base walk for Men if NO strikes are pitched...

Those that attend tournaments know that if a male gets a walk they get 2 bases not one - most leagues don't use this rule but some have started a
version of this and ONLY if the male gets NO strikes does he get the 2 base walk otherwise its the normal 1 base..

Should we implement this rule?

This may well be an acceptable option on the whole 'walking' scenario. Don't suppose next step would be viable as further tournament rule allows next female batter to then get first base if already on two Outs. However, we do not play 5:5 so difficult to apply.

If a 2 base award is given to a 'walked' man - then, if its a woman next, on two outs - she should get a walk to first - if its a man, then the preceding man would only get a walk to first anyways

This is used in a number of Leagues (and in the Irish Open) and it doesn't cause too much confusion amongst teams and Umpires

Man followed by Man - a walk awarded - Man gets to 1st base - Man bats
Man followed by Woman - a walk awarded - Man gets to 2nd base - Woman bats
if 2 outs then the Woman gets a walk to 1st base - next batter bats

Question - What is a walk to be in ESL?
4 Balls - No Strikes
or
4 Balls - Some Strikes (normal)

Pieman
Reckon we should follow how they play it in US tournies

Man gets two bases if no strikes, and one base if there is a strike on him

Amazing how this is used tactically baseball_original.gif

Will we be voting on this at Captains meeting

That's the format that would get my vote too. It's simple and easy to understand, but does leave a bit of management of where you put your biggest hitters - before a guy or before a girl?

I would go with the normal version. Anything else gets too confusing - the more conditions you add the harder any rule is to understand and explain. I understand what Pieman is saying about the tactics of the 1-strike version, but in a rec league I think we should be encouraging pitchers to pitch to people rather than just making the semi-intentional walk a little harder.
